Trailblazing a New Frontier in Leadership

Getting to “wow” in life is an important and life-long journey – from cradle to grave.

"The secret formula for a high-velocity leadership is to connect with other successful & driven leaders."

Being an enterprising leader – that unique individual possessed with an unwavering vision, faith and resolve to lead in the face of adversity, imagine and then break new ground to create a lasting impact, and ultimately create a powerful legacy beyond themselves – however, has a shorter trajectory and timeline.

Whatever the chosen path, or desired life, leadership or career / business objectives, enterprising leaders set the right velocity (i.e. speed in a given direction) to accelerate their growth, impact and achievement of their life ambitions.

The world has witnessed many great and enterprising leaders who changed the face of society and proved instrumental in revolutionizing the world. Even today, they are held in high regard for their work, and their lives inspire many. These leaders brought about a dramatic change to the world and deeply affected society. But not all great leaders are recognized in the same public way. Leaders of all shapes and sizes create powerful impact in their communities, their organizations and in the lives of many.

The trajectory chosen by, for instance, Roberta Bondar (Canada’s first female astronaut, first neurologist in space, and head of NASA’s space medicine program), Martin Luther King Jr. (leader of the American Civil Rights Movement), Mahatma Gandhi (the leader in unarmed revolt against violence), and Mother Theresa (founder of the Missionaries of Charity and prophet of whole-hearted and free service to the poorest of the poor), was unique. Yet, despite their unique speed and path to achieving their life’s ambitions, these leaders all had leadership attributes in common.

Each leader had an unwavering vision and passion beyond themselves. They knew they couldn’t achieve their dreams alone so they surrounded themselves with like-minded people who become followers, and some leaders in their own rights. They worked with others and systems to provoke their own thinking along with the status quo to forge change. They paced their journey with the growth of those leading the charge and sustaining the dream. They worked on themselves first to set the standard for change and modeling their belief system. And, they all made sure that others shared in their momentous and life altering experiences. These leadership attributes are referred to as high-velocity leadership attributes.

The secret formula for a high-velocity leadership is to connect with other successful and driven leaders who have an appetite for continuous learning and development; to think with like-minded leaders in a safe environment where peers will challenge them to solve existing issues and explore new opportunities; and grow by challenging, or confirming their own thinking and leveraging the experience of peers and / or advisors to realize their unique potential.

Blazing a new frontier in leadership calls upon leaders to be enterprising in nature; to accelerator their own journey and that of others around them through these six high-velocity leadership accelerators:

Accelerator #1:  Connect leadership path to life purpose.

Accelerator #2:  Connect to a powerful leadership coalition.

Accelerator #3:  Think with peers who challenge convention.

"Grow thyself to break new ground."

Accelerator #4:  Think to link personal leadership and organization growth, together.

Accelerator #5:  Grow thyself to break new ground.

Accelerator #6:  Grow a community of care to experience the “wow” in life.

The opportunity for enterprising leaders is to forge their own path based on their life passion, set the right speed for growth, and to ultimately bring greatness to others.

  • Trying to Make Everyone Happy is Making Them Miserable

    Dr. Liane Davey

As a team effectiveness advisor, I understand the importance of civility in the workplace. Lately, the desire for civility has morphed into a dangerous compulsion to keep everything happy and harmonious. Our propensity to duck, dodge, and defer the conflict that’s inevitable in organizations is only redirecting it, intensifying it, and embedding it in our teams. I call this phenomenon conflict debt.
