The following are closing remarks curated by our host, Ron Tite based on the presentations by Linda Hill, Robert Sutton, Arianna Huffington, Daniel Goleman, and Rudy Giuliani at The Art of Leadership in Toronto.
You didn’t come here today to champion convention. You came here to succeed.
Just remember that the definition of success is creating opportunities for others.
Everyone has a slice of genius. It’s your job to recognize how to use it. At the same time, it’s not about solo genius.
It’s about collective genius. Connect people and cascade excellence.
You didn’t come here today to champion convention. You came here to succeed.
It’s tough being a leader. You’re not born. You’re made.
Leading is not about being the performer, it’s about being the stage setter.
You don’t have to do it all. No is a complete sentence.
Sometimes, leadership means not having a vision. If you are a visionary, but you can’t act on that vision, well…you’re just a philosopher.
Don’t wait until you feel confident to do something. You don’t plan your way towards innovation, you act towards it. Don’t think your way to being different. Act your way to being different. And if you’re going to act, move fast and break things. If you’re going to be bold, you’re going to have failures. Just move from panic to problem solving.
Be relentlessly prepared. And be relentlessly restless. Be driven by pride, not financial incentives. Believe in something. And spread your mindset, not your footprint. Don’t worry, your EQ will let you shine.
At the same time, quality is the best business plan.
Your challenge is take something good and not screw it up.
Innovative companies have bold ambition, collaboration, responsibility, and learning. So do great leaders. The geeks won’t inherit the earth, you will.
The real world of leadership is creating a world that other people want to belong to.
So know yourself. Be honest. Be inspiring. Give feedback.
The unexamined life is not worth living. So see the whole and question everything..
Build respect. Relentlessly prepare. Give clear goals.
Sleep your way to top. Literally.
Be an aggregator of viewpoints. Be the captain of your ship.
Communicate. Have courage. Rouse up emotions.
Let’s face it, the grass is browner. Don’t opt out.
Stop doing stuff that’s bad for you. Be an optimist. Ditch the heels.
Don’t just do something, stand there.
Float like a butterfly. Sting like a bee.
Go to bed. If god can take a day off, so can you.
This is your moment. Don’t miss it.
And if all else fails, remember… you can never underestimate the power of complete incomprehensibility.
